Preparing Your Plumbing For the Holidays

The holidays are underway, and with it come a new set of challenges for your kitchens, sinks and bathrooms!  You’re going to have more visitors than usual, so make sure your plumbing is up to the new workload.  Something simple you can do is check for leaks.  Sinks have a drain pipe underneath that may be clogged or ill fitting.  This can cause a leak after enough time, though it may not be immediately noticeable.  You can place a dry paper town under the pipe, and if it’s still dry after a few hours, you’re in the clear!  Shower drains can also clog up with old soap and debris.  Sometimes something as simple as vinegar and baking soda can clear that up so you don’t have standing water in your bathtubs for your guests.  And finally, check that water heater!  You may need to have a professional come check it out.  When a water heater fails, it can cause an entire floor to be flooded, so that’s the last thing you want your guests to deal with!
